Pubic and
Pelvic Pain

Pelvic or pubic pain can make even simple movements—like walking, rolling over in bed, or standing from a chair—uncomfortable. With the right care, it is possible to reduce pain, restore balance, and move with greater ease.

What Is Pubic and Pelvic Pain?

Pelvic pain refers to discomfort in the lower abdomen, pelvis, or hips. Pubic pain often centers around the pubic symphysis, the joint at the front of the pelvis, which can become irritated or unstable. These issues are common during pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond, but they are not “normal” and should not be ignored.

Common Symptoms

You may be experiencing pubic or pelvic pain if you notice:

  • Sharp or aching pain in the front of the pelvis (pubic bone)

  • Pain when walking, climbing stairs, or standing on one leg

  • Discomfort when rolling in bed or getting out of a car

  • Achiness in the hips, groin, or lower back

  • Clicking or shifting sensations in the pelvis

Contributing Factors

Pelvic and pubic pain can develop from:

  • Pregnancy and postpartum changes

  • Pelvic joint instability or misalignment

  • Muscle weakness or tightness in the hips and core

  • Poor posture or repetitive movement patterns

  • Previous injuries or pelvic surgeries

How Treatment Helps

Physical therapy addresses the underlying causes of pelvic and pubic pain by restoring stability, mobility, and strength. Treatment may include:

  • Stabilizing exercises for the hips, pelvis, and core

  • Manual therapy to relieve tension and improve alignment

  • Breathing and posture strategies to support pelvic balance

  • Mobility training to reduce strain during daily movement

  • Education on safe, pain-free modifications for everyday tasks

What to Expect in Care

Your treatment plan will be tailored to your needs, whether you’re pregnant, postpartum, or experiencing chronic pelvic discomfort. Therapy begins externally, focusing on movement and alignment, with options to expand as needed for more targeted support.

The Goal of Care

The focus is to reduce pain, restore stability, and improve daily function so you can walk, move, and exercise with greater comfort. With the right care, you don’t have to let pelvic or pubic pain limit your lifestyle.
